Melee Combat

When engaging in melee combat, it's important to know the basics between the various melee attacks and defensive moves.

You have 3 types of melee attacks: Fast Attacks, Heavy Attacks and Weapon Whips.

Fast attacks are the initial swing animations performed by your Operative before a combo.

Heavy attacks are triggered at the end of a combo and knock your opponent back. Getting hit with a heavy attack and being 'knocked' leaves you vulnerable to another attack.

Weapon whips are the melee attacks that are performed while holding a non-melee weapon.

It is important to block incoming melee attacks in-between striking for a successful outcome.

Melee Target Locking

While holding a melee weapon, press 'Tab' in close proximity to other players to lock onto them. This will give you an enhanced Melee mode enabling you to more effectively attack your opponent and block incoming attacks, especially ranged weapons if you have a shield. In this mode, your shield when equipped and engaged, will automatically position itself in your opponents line of fire. When up against an opponent with a ranged weapon, having a shield handy and being melee locked can significantly improve your chance of survival.
